“One night in the early sixties I passed something on the Long Island Expressway just before the Queens tunnel that I must have seen for years. The billboard advertising cigars, Dutch Masters. I realized it was sort of perfect. It's weird isn't it? You're looking at Rembrandt - in neon! It was too much, it was irresistible.” Larry Rivers

That Long Island epiphany inspired numerous paintings and prints including this one produced in 1991 for a print exhibition at Elaine Horwitch's galleries. This is from the hand signed and numbered edition of 500, aside from an unknown quantity that were un-signed.

One Cent Life, edited by Sam Francis, comprised of 65 original lithographs in colour (some of which double page) featured most of the leading American Pop Artists of the early 60's including WARHOL, MEL RAMOS, JIM DINE, ROBERT INDIANA, RAUSCHENBERG, ROSENQUIST, and TOM WESSELMANN. The majority of the prints featured Abstract artists, most notably members of the European, 'Cobra' group.
