Record Covers
Since Alex Steinweiss invented the Album sleeve 60 years ago, the 12" (approx) square has appealed to artists as a format and, of course, a way to get there art in to the wider world.
To the British public Peter Blake will always be the man who designed Sgt Pepper for the Beatles, and Julian Opie is often identified as the designer of BLUR's Hits album. Some covers received acclaim at the time of issue, such as Warhol's great sleeve for the Rolling Stones 'Sticky Fingers' album, others such as Jean Michel Basquiat's cover for 'The Off's First Record' sunk without a trace before the artist had made any impact in the Art World. The great thing about collecting 'Art Covers' is that there are covers out there still to be discovered, Banksy (bless his vandalising sox) still puts some of his best work on record covers, keeping the price of quality limited (500 ish) edition prints within the price range of those who can not afford the Auction- Rooms. Even Damien Hirst produces the occasional cover. We stock works by many artists including, Richard Hamilton, Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg, Salvador Dali, Peter Blake, Jean Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. Our criteria, is that the cover should be created by the Artist for record or the musician on the Record. We are not interested in covers where an existing piece of work is licenced. We may not be the cheapest for all the items that we sell, but we do tell the truth about things like the version on offer, i.e. original or reprint, and we only offer genuine goods never counterfeit product.
